PowerHer: Celebrating Women’s History Month

Tanya

Snyder

To celebrate Women’s History Month, Dress For Success Washington, DC highlights Tanya Snyder, Co-Owner and Co-CEO of the Washington Commanders. Tanya is well-known for her commitment to ensuring the team is a "Champion of the Community" and over the years has continuously expanded her role to become a multifaceted leader across the organization. She has become a catalyst for the evolution of the Commanders into a franchise of the future.

Tanya spearheaded the creation of the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation, which formally launched in 2000 and has grown to directly and positively impact more than 178,000 local children each year. As the “Captain” behind the scenes, Tanya has guided the Commanders’ social and community efforts together with the spouses of Washington players and coaches. Under her stewardship, the Charitable Foundation has put on more than 130 community events for children.

Tanya created the "Women of Washington" (WOW) platform in 2011 as a nod to the significance of the Commanders’ female fan base. One of the largest active women’s organizations within the league, WOW boasts a membership of 135,000 women who donate their time to serve as a liaison between the Commanders and the local communities they play for.

Tanya’s advocacy for women and underserved communities extends beyond her executive role with The Washington Commanders. She is active within the NFL across its various initiatives, highlighted by her work with the NFL's Apparel Campaign for female fans. Her most significant endeavor came to fruition at the start of the 1999 season, when she and Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) started the THINK-PINK!® campaign for breast cancer awareness within the NFL and has become a global initiative.

The Snyders’ commitment to various charities derives from their mission to make a difference in their community and beyond for both Commanders fans and the National Football League as a whole.

See what Tanya shares about the best mentor she’s had and the value of caring for others:

Who is the best mentor you’ve had, and what advice did they give you?

The best mentor that I’ve had was my mother. As a young single mom raising four girls, she showed me that nothing replaces hard work, love, and support. She instilled a strong work ethic in all of us, which continues to drive me every single day.

What current trend do you hope will go on for a long time?

A current trend that I hope will continue for a long time is people respecting their health and understanding how valuable it is to spend time and interact with others. I think it helps all of us maintain love and appreciation for each other. The separation and tragedies we all experienced during COVID just reinforces the real purpose of what life is all about, and why we’re here. The reason that we’re here is to love and care for each other.
